Do you need an additional source of income? Or maybe you’re just looking for something fun to do in your spare time. Whatever your reason, there are many options available that allow you to work part-time whilst working from home.
1. Freelance Writing
If you love writing, freelance writing might be right up your alley. There are plenty of websites where you can post articles and other pieces of writing, and people will pay you for them. It’s not as easy as it sounds, though. You’ll need to learn how to write well, and you’ll also need to find clients who are willing to pay for what you’ve written. An excellent way to start is to write voluntary blog posts for businesses, charities or non-profit organisations. More often than not, companies will welcome voluntary articles. Once you have built up a portfolio of work, you can begin charging for your services on a freelance basis.

2. Virtual Assistant
A Virtual Assistant (VA) is an online employee who works remotely for businesses. They provide administrative support, such as answering emails, scheduling meetings, and managing social media accounts. VAs typically charge hourly rates based on the number of hours worked per week. If you’ve had a career break and are experienced in admin/office-based work, becoming a VA could be a great option to utilise your skills whilst still having flexibility.
3. Data Entry
Working in Data Entry is a great part-time, remote option if you are a proficient, fast typer, have a strong eye for detail, and have experience using Excel spreadsheets/completing administrative duties to a high standard. The job’s responsibilities suit remote work requirements well, including sorting information, preparing data for computer entry, and generating reports/ storing completed work.

4. Graphic Design
Graphic design is an ideal remote job that keeps your creative mind switched on and lets you work with diverse clients and industries. No day is ever the same for a Graphic Designer! Plenty of graphic design jobs are available online, so you should be able to find one that suits your skill set. Many people use Fiverr.com to make money by offering graphic design services. Again, a great way to start is to provide a few designs for free to small businesses and brands, such as logos/branding materials. Once you have built up a portfolio, you’re ready to hit the ground running!

5. Web Development
If you’re interested in web development, there’s no shortage of opportunities. Whether you’re looking for freelance or full-time employment, plenty of companies need help with their websites. Ranking highly on Google is becoming increasingly important to businesses, so even if you go down a different career route, the skills you learn will be helpful. Working on a project-by-project basis also means you can manage your time well.
6. Social Media Manager
When you think of remote work, social media manager might be one of the first jobs that come to mind. The job allows you to work from anywhere. Although it requires a deep understanding of social media, marketing, and branding, you can quickly gain experience and adapt to the world of algorithms, hashtags, and TikTok videos. Social media management makes a great side hustle to do alongside another job or to easily fit in family/childcare time with the help of scheduling apps and creating content in advance.
7. Transcriptionist
As a transcriptionist, you will listen to recorded audio or video, typing exactly what you hear word-for-word. You’ll have experience working for many different clients and industries, with many specialising in medical, legal or market research transcription. A great way to get started is to start on freelance sites offering your services on an ad-hoc basis to build up a portfolio.
8. Online Teacher
As an online teacher, you’ll need a degree in education or within the subject you want to teach. As with any teaching job, you have many options as to what ages and specialisms you would like to teach. However, working online gives you more flexibility to work with different groups and people internationally. To teach college-level courses, you will need a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree. Income varies, and many online teachers are paid by term or semester rather than annually. This makes it great for part-time or temporary flexible work.
9. Survey Taker
Being a survey taker gives you lots of flexibility to manage your time and workload. The role requires great enthusiasm and a passion for helping others gather data and research specific areas. Day-to-day responsibilities vary a lot but often include online data entry work, product and service testimonials and completing surveys, of course.

10. Bookkeeper
Remote bookkeeping is becoming increasingly popular due to more people working from home and better technology and internet speeds. Many businesses are now outsourcing their bookkeepers, which could be an excellent opportunity to earn some money part-time while also keeping time for your family and other commitments. You won’t have a shortage of work because every business needs some form of bookkeeping. You will manage a company’s financial transactions, keep track of invoice payments and manage accounts.
