Description

Part-Time HR Consultant

25 Hours Per Week | 4 Days | Hybrid | £45,000-£50,000 FTE + Profit Share + Incentives

Oxfordshire / Berkshire / Buckinghamshire

Love HR - but don't want a traditional full-time HR role?

Maybe you enjoy getting stuck into the detail of a tricky employee relations case.

Maybe you're the person who spots the clause in a contract that isn't quite right.

Maybe you genuinely enjoy taking a complicated HR problem and turning it into clear, practical advice that a business owner can actually use.

But you'd also quite like to do all of that without working five days a week.

We're recruiting an experienced HR Consultant to join our small, growing HR consultancy supporting a varied portfolio of SME clients.

You'll work approximately 25 hours across four days, with flexibility around your start and finish times and a hybrid working pattern.

And rather than disappearing into a large HR department, you'll own client relationships, work directly with business owners and managers and see the impact of your advice first-hand.

The Opportunity

No two clients, or days, will be exactly the same.

One day you might be advising a business owner through a difficult employee relations issue.

The next, you'll review an employment contract, improve a policy, or help a manager prepare for a conversation they've been dreading.

You'll support a portfolio of SME clients, getting to know their businesses, their people and how they operate.

And you'll become someone they trust to call when they need clear, calm and commercially sensible HR advice.

This isn't about quoting employment law at people.

It's about understanding it — and knowing how to apply it in the real world.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll take ownership of a varied mix of advisory, documentation and client work, including:

  • Providing practical HR advice to business owners and managers
  • Managing day-to-day HR queries across a portfolio of SME clients
  • Drafting contracts, policies, letters, scripts and guidance
  • Reviewing existing HR documentation and identifying where it could be clearer or stronger
  • Supporting disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance and redundancy matters
  • Preparing managers for difficult or sensitive conversations
  • Supporting HR check-ups, document reviews and wider client projects
  • Attending disciplinary, grievance, redundancy and other employee relations meetings
  • Supporting clients both remotely and face-to-face
  • Helping manage higher-level queries through the shared client inbox
  • Working closely with the wider team to provide responsive and consistent client support
  • Building strong relationships with your clients and helping them get the best from their people

You'll have plenty of autonomy - but you'll also be part of a supportive team when you need another perspective.

We'd Love to Hear From You If...

You know your HR.

But just as importantly, you know how to talk about HR with people who don't.

You're confident advising a business owner who needs an answer, not a lecture.

You're calm when situations become sensitive.

You're comfortable challenging a client when needed.

You can balance best practice with the commercial realities of running a small business.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong generalist HR experience
  • Experience within an HR consultancy or outsourced HR environment
  • CIPD qualification - ideally Level 7 - or significant equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
  • Experience managing employee relations cases
  • Confidence advising managers and business owners
  • Excellent drafting skills and attention to detail
  • Experience producing contracts, policies, letters and HR documentation
  • The ability to manage multiple clients and competing priorities
  • A calm, practical and client-focused approach
  • Experience using HR systems
  • Confidence with Microsoft Word and other digital tools, including AI
  • The ability to attend client meetings across Oxfordshire and surrounding areas when required

Why Join?

Because you can do interesting, senior-level HR work without giving your entire week to it.

You'll join a small, supportive, growing consultancy where your contribution will be noticed, and your judgement will be trusted.

You'll get:

  • £45,000-£50,000 FTE salary
  • Approximately 25 hours per week
  • Four-day working week
  • Flexible start and finish times
  • Hybrid working - just 1 day a week in the office near Abingdon
  • 25 days' holiday
  • 5% pension contribution
  • Annual Bluecrest health check
  • Annual profit share
  • Incentive scheme with the opportunity to increase your earnings by achieving client revenue targets
  • Varied work across a portfolio of interesting SME clients
  • Genuine ownership of client relationships
  • A supportive, relaxed working environment
  • The opportunity to play an important role in a growing consultancy

A Different Kind of HR Role

If you're already working in HR consultancy or outsourced HR and love the variety, but want more flexibility, a smaller team, and a more relaxed environment, this could be a brilliant next move.

You'll still get the interesting cases.

You'll still build your expertise.

You'll still work closely with clients and make a genuine difference.

You just don't have to work five days a week to do it.
