Description
We’re a small, growing legal professional services consultancy seeking an experienced Charity & Corporate Governance Specialist to help boards and senior teams strengthen governance arrangements in a practical, proportionate, and effective way.
The role spans both corporate and charity settings, working with company boards, trustee boards and committees. The emphasis is on helping organisations turn governance reviews and good intentions into clear, workable improvements — improving decision‑making, accountability and board effectiveness without unnecessary complexity.
Key responsibilities
- Advising boards, trustees and committees on governance structure and ways of working
- Reviewing and improving governance frameworks, delegations and decision‑making processes
- Providing advice on directors’ and trustees’ duties and regulatory good practice
- Supporting board effectiveness reviews, skills audits and governance diagnostics
- Drafting and refining core governance documents (e.g. terms of reference, schemes of delegation, policies)
- Supporting the implementation of agreed governance improvements
We're looking for someone with:
- Significant experience in corporate and/or charity governance, gained through advisory, in‑house or board‑level roles
- Strong understanding of board and trustee responsibilities and governance best practice
- Experience working directly with senior stakeholders and boards
- A pragmatic, proportionate approach and sound judgement
- Confidence providing constructive challenge at board level
Desirable: legal, company secretarial or governance qualifications; experience across both corporate and charity contexts.
This is a part-time role (to fit around family and other non-conflicting commitments)
Largely remote / WFH with occasional in-person time with clients
Salary to attract, based on experience
