Why Imposter Syndrome Isn’t Always A Bad Thing featured image

Imposter Syndrome is a feeling that you’re not good enough and that everyone else knows it. It’s when you feel like a fraud; you don’t belong, and you’re only getting what you have because other people are too stupid to see through your charade. It’s when you feel like you’re going to be found out for being less than what you’ve convinced everyone else that you are. But did you know you can get many positives from turning this situation around?

Investing in Women Founder Elizabeth Willetts is joined by inspiring career and work-life balance coach and the Parent Equation Podcast host Ayesha Murray to talk about managing imposter syndrome!

In this interactive conversation, we discuss the following:

  • What is imposter syndrome and how to overcome it
  • How to push ourselves out of our comfort zone
  • How to embrace personal growth
  • How to streamline your work-life balance

If you get imposter syndrome, you are not alone! Most of us experience imposter syndrome at some point, so learn to embrace it and make it work for you!

Notable Quotes

  • Everyone suffers from impostor syndrome. And those people you think might not suffer from it are just masking it very well, or they have embraced it and have strategies to deal with it.
  • We limit our ability to grow if we let imposter syndrome take over.
  • From my experience with my clients and speaking to people, everyone suffers from it, but men hide it better.
  • When we move out of our comfort zone, or we’re allowed to move out of our comfort zone, or there’s a new challenge or whatever we want to take on, we move into the fear zone. And the fear zone is where impostor syndrome lives.
  • If we can get ourselves past fear, embrace the fear, and think I’m going to do it anyway; whatever the outcome, I’m gonna learn from this, then we move into the learning zone.
  • If you can keep that momentum and keep that mindset going over time, you move from learning to growth. And that’s where the real potential comes in.
  • There is this journey that we go on, from comfort to fear, to learning, to growth, and getting past that fear opens up so many doors and opportunities for us.
  • Think about what could go right. And I would just urge people to do that in an exercise format, especially if you’ve got something coming up.
  • If we spend too much time focusing on weaknesses, we then don’t exploit our strengths, where the potential is. I think that’s where the growth comes from.
  • There’s nothing wrong with living in your comfort zone if that works for you and your family.
