Meet Elizabeth Povey, a dedicated professional and cleaning franchise owner at Domestic Angels, where the sanctity of a clean and harmonious home meets the empowerment of flexible work. Since 2002, Domestic Angels has been the guardian of pristine homes, offering services from weekly cleaning to ironing, and from spring cleans to holiday home management. Elizabeth’s journey with Domestic Angels in the scenic locales of Dorset is a shining example of how one can blend the demands of a thriving career with the joys of family life.
Q: How does the job fit around your family life?
A: The job fits in perfectly with my family life. Being there for the children should they need is the most fantastic element. I can work and show the children a strong work ethic as they see me interact with the community and what it means to be reliable and to treat my staff well and fairly.
Q: Where do you carry out your work?
A: I have an office at home, and I see clients in their homes… I never have to travel too far.
Q: Do you advertise?
A: Yes, Facebook, but I have a fantastic social group that spreads the word.
Q: Are there any downsides to the role?
A: Only when clients die… It’s always sad.
Q: How often do you work?
A: I start working with tea in bed at around 7, making sure there have been no overnight situations where I may need to contact clients before 9. Then, I sort the children and the dog out. I then go out on surveys and back to the office. I finish for the children at 3 and take most Fridays off. Mid-week, I get the food shopping done in the days and housework, too.
Q: How much time do you commit?
A: That is difficult to say. Weeks change so much. I can have very quiet weeks where I am free nearly all day, and then other weeks are busy sorting new staff, clients, holidays, and admin.
Q: Do you need a car?
A: Yes… I have to get my children to school, and it would make it hard to get to surveys without it. Saying that I had spinal issues for 6 weeks, didn’t drive, and still managed to grow and run the business. So yes and no.
Q: Do you get support/training running a Domestic Angels cleaning franchise?
A: Yes… Support is fantastic; I never feel alone.
Q: Why would you recommend this opportunity to others?
A: Yes, absolutely! It takes time to get started and reach a rolling level, but once you are there, things can just tick along.
Elizabeth’s story is a testament to the fact that balancing a successful career and a happy home is not just possible but deeply rewarding with the right opportunity, support, and a dash of determination.
