From Burnout to Bold Moves: Why This Mum Ditched 9-to-5 for Passive Income That Pays featured image

If you’d told Sam Earnshaw a few years ago that she’d be earning a flexible income from helping people save money on their energy bills, she’d probably have laughed.

But here we are.

In this episode of the Work It Like A Mum podcast, I chat with the brilliant Sam – a mum, mentor, and absolute powerhouse – who turned years of hustle, redundancy, and doing all the things into a business that works for her.

Not the other way around.

She now earns £6,000+ a month in part-time hours, working around her life. And she’s on a mission to help other women do the same.

Sam’s Story: From Door-to-Door to Doing It Her Way

Sam’s career started young. She was working with her baby on her lap, selling Anne Summers, and later holding down high-pressure sales roles with six-figure salaries and a company car.

From the outside? Success. Inside? Exhausted. Misaligned. And constantly questioning how she’d keep all the plates spinning.

Eventually, the corporate job went. Redundancy. Again. But this time, something clicked: “I had the time, but no money. And I hated asking my partner for it.

That was her turning point.

What Made UW Different

She was introduced to Utility Warehouse (UW) – and at first? She thought, “Ugh. Utilities. How boring.”

But then she heard about the income: up to £250 per customer. No stock. No pressure to sell. Just helping people save money on things they already use every day: gas, electricity, broadband, mobiles.

And suddenly, it wasn’t boring. It was brilliant.

Real Work, Real Impact

This isn’t about flogging mascara or hosting parties. It’s about:

  • Helping people cut their household bills
  • Earning a proper income for your effort
  • Getting paid month after month with residual income
  • Having something that’s actually sustainable

Now, Sam mentors other women to build incomes like hers. Some want to pay for holidays. Others want to leave toxic jobs. A few want to go all in.

The best part? It works for all of them.

Building a Business You Can Will to Your Kids

Sam’s business isn’t just flexible. It’s future-proof. “It’s in my will. When I’m gone, my income continues. That’s a legacy.

Let that sink in.

The Hard Truths (and the Hope)

Sam’s been through a lot – divorce, money struggles, late diagnoses for ADHD and autism. But instead of letting those define her, she used them to drive her.

And she’s now helping others do the same.

We talk about all of it in this episode:

  • The myths about network marketing
  • Why so many women feel stuck
  • How passive income changed everything

And most importantly, how you can start too.

Fancy a Peek Behind the Scenes?

We run free webinars showing exactly how it all works. No pressure. No jargon. Just two women (me, Elizabeth Willetts, Founder of Investing in Women and Sam) sharing how this business can work for you.

Final Thought

Flexible work shouldn’t mean minimum wage or less ambition.

There is another way. And Sam’s story proves it.

You just have to be brave enough to try something different.
